When we said “I do” to our vows, we understood that we were entering into a covenant with one another and with God that we would fulfill until death do us part. This isn’t always easy, but it gives us some great stories of loving each other despite the silly arguments that come about because of kinks in communication. This is often brought about by one of us misunderstanding the other, slightly over reacting, and the other one reacting to that slight over reaction in such a way that doesn’t initially take everything into consideration before responding. One of us (usually Luke), will call us out on how silly what we are doing is and we will then walk back to the issue and begin to make progress.
Based on our study of Emerson Eggerichs’ book, Love and Respect, we call this process “The Crazy Cycle”. Emma may do something that Luke perceives as disrespectful and out of a man’s need to feel respected in a relationship responds in such a way that causes Emma to feel unloved, or Luke does something that makes Emma feel unloved and she reciprocates in a disrespectful manner.
This was recently seen in an argument about serving Taco Salad with Tacos at the same meal…
